Yahoo Go 3.0 Beta was released into the wild today during the CES convention in Las Vegas. The latest version adds a much improved UI that can be viewed either with the traditional carousal or new “icon” layout. A ”Home Widget” icon is also new and allows the user to view at-a-glance if they have received any new emails emails, appointment alerts and if a friend has recently uploaded new photos to Flickr. Yahoo plans on adding Ebay, MTV and MySpace widgets over the next couple of weeks.
Even though 3.0 is optimized for viewing on mobile phones with relatively small screens it is somewhat surprising that only 30 cell phone models are currently compatible. Yahoo however expects to have that number somewhere in the hundreds over the next couple of months.

Well if you weren’t getting your fill of the widgets before, Nokia just made it a lot easier with its new WidSets service. Users that own Java enabled phones will be able to search for and download their favorite widgets like the popular Accuweather.com or simply create their own using the “widget creation tool”. So the next time you need to know what theater is showing your favorite movie, what time it starts and how many seats are left you can call on your movie theater widget for the answer.Over the next year Nokia plans on pre-installing WidSets in millions of their phones starting with the 8800 Arte which is scheduled to be released into the wild sometime this quarter.
