17 Nov 07 T-Mobile suspends Sidekick Slide sales!

Originally reported by BGR, T-Mobile’s Sidekick Slide experienced power cycling issues during their initial testing of the unit was apparently not an isolated case. Many customers have reported similar problems with the unit turning it self off when the display is opened. No one is really sure why this occurs, but some speculate the possibility of the battery connection becoming temporarily disconnected as a result of the force some users use when operating the slider.

This begs the questions as to why Motorola did not thoroughly test the unit before leaving the factory. In any event T-Mobile has announced they are suspending sales of the Slide until a fix can be issued and owners of defective Slides should contact T-Mobile or visit there local dealer to discuss their options.

Bad news for Motorola may be good news for Sharp as owners may look to replace their ill fated Slide with an ID or LX model.

Official Statement

“T-Mobile USA suspended sales of the T-Mobile Sidekick Slide[TM] on Friday evening, Nov. 16, after Motorola - the manufacturer of the device - confirmed that some devices may inadvertently power off when the slide door on the front side of the phone is opened or closed.

T-Mobile has taken this action to help ensure our customers only receive devices we’re confident will perform at their peak, so they can stay effortlessly connected to those who matter most.

Motorola is currently working to identify the root cause of the power cycle issue in affected Sidekick Slide devices. The T-Mobile Sidekick LX[TM] and Sidekick iD[TM] are not affected by this issue.

If a customer purchased a Sidekick Slide that is experiencing the unintended power cycle issue, they may contact T-Mobile Customer Care, or go to a T-Mobile retail store, for assistance and to discuss available options.”
