24 Jan 08 Sony Ericsson offers 4 new entry level models

In an effort to become more competitive in the entry level handset market Sony Ericsson recently introduced 4 new models that it hopes will increase its foot print in the emerging markets sector.

T280 - Sports clean simple lines with a two toned black and brushed metal finish that actually doesn’t look half bad for a phone deemed entry level - even the UI shows off a decent set icons.

  • 1.3 megapixel camera
  • FM radio
  • Slim 13mm candybar form factor
  • Bluetooth technology

T270 - Similar to the 280 minus the camera - again clean lines, simple design adds up to a winning combination for Sony.

24 Jan 08 AT&T introduces “No-Commitment” option

AT&T logoAccording to Gizmodo they have come across what appears to be an internal memo from AT&T depicting an unadvertised no contract option. Typically when you sign up for new service the carrier subsidizes the cost of the phone and offers you the best rate plans in exchange for a 1 or 2 year contract commitment. It appears as though anyone who wishes to pay for a handset up front can still choose any plan AT&T offers without signing a contract.

The “No-Commitment” option seems to have been available since November of last year - which begs the question as to why we haven’t heard one peep out of AT&T’s promotions department? Could it be they make a lot more money with contracts?

If this option turns out to be true it would certainly lend credence to AT&T commitment to “Openness”.
